You’ve already been through the design process with Dave Fox Design Build Remodelers, and now the anticipation is building. Your home renovation is about to begin, and while it’s an exciting time, it’s also natural to wonder what the next phase will truly be like. Rest assured, we’re here to guide you through every step of your custom home remodel.
Setting Realistic Expectations
As Gary Demos, President of Dave Fox Remodeling, puts it: “It can be hard to truly comprehend what this will be like, but don’t worry — we’re here to help you through the process.”
Home renovations are messy, loud, and can feel slow at times, especially during the early stages of the project. Demolition and behind-the-walls work like plumbing, electrical, or HVAC may not be glamorous, but they’re absolutely essential to your project’s success. While it may seem like “nothing is getting done,” rest assured, these are the foundations for everything to come.
Understanding the Renovation Flow
At your upcoming on-site meeting, you’ll receive a detailed schedule outlining your project’s timeline. We understand that during the initial phases, particularly demolition, it might feel like nothing significant is happening. However, this early work is often critical but mostly unseen, laying the groundwork for the beautiful transformation to come. As we progress to drywall and cabinet installation, you’ll start to see tangible movement in the right direction. Remember, minor concerns and questions are normal and expected—our team is always here to address them.
Protecting Your Home and Your Comfort
Protecting your home is a top priority for us. We utilize floor protection and zip walls to minimize dust and debris from spreading throughout your living space. However, it’s important to understand that dust will still escape. This is an active, dusty, and noisy construction site. While we go to great lengths to protect your home, we also protect you by maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
You should plan for one day of garage space to be used by our team for materials and equipment. Additionally, you’ll want to plan for space for a dumpster and porta-potty, as well as additional vehicles that will be parked at your home during the day. Specific locations for these items will be determined at your on-site meeting, so it’s a good idea to start thinking about what will work best for your family.
During construction, there will be dust and noise, which can be tiring. Keep in mind that whatever area is being renovated or is directly adjacent to it will need to be adapted for temporary use. A very common situation is a temporary kitchen setup, which might involve using paper plates or even doing dishes in a bathtub. The reality is that the renovated area will be missing from your life—this means temporarily losing access to your dishwasher, refrigerator, oven, or even shelves and mounted structures from adjacent walls.
While we do our utmost to minimize disruptions, there are instances where temporary relocation might be beneficial during a custom home remodel. If your floors are being refinished, for example, you’ll want to find a place to stay temporarily during that process. At times, it’s simply best to get out of the house entirely, especially during a major first-floor renovation.
Prioritizing Communication
Communication is at the heart of a successful remodeling experience. We’ll keep you updated with regular project status reports and are always available to answer questions or address concerns.
Our open and ongoing communication helps ensure there are no surprises and that we can make quick adjustments when needed. Your input matters, and we see this as a collaborative process where your voice is always heard.
Why It’s All Worth It
While the thought of temporary disruption might seem daunting, it’s crucial to remember that these short-term inconveniences pave the way for significant long-term benefits. A professionally remodeled home by Dave Fox isn’t just about aesthetic upgrades; it’s about enhancing your daily life for years to come.
Imagine the joy of cooking in a beautifully designed, functional kitchen that perfectly suits your needs, or relaxing in a spa-like bathroom retreat. Think about the increased efficiency, improved flow, and enhanced value your home will gain. These are not just fleeting improvements; they are investments in your comfort, lifestyle, and property value. The initial period of adjustment will fade, replaced by the enduring enjoyment of a home that truly reflects your dreams and serves your family for many years. Our team does everything to keep you comfortable throughout the process, ensuring the temporary discomfort is as minimal as possible while focusing on delivering exceptional results.
