Two Story Addition
This family was looking to add more function into their 1800s built home, while honoring its history & introducing a more modern style.

BEFORE
This 1880 built home featured a small 1980 built addition that was home to their less-than-functional kitchen. To deliver the space these homeowners needed, a larger two-story addition would have to take place. As the design process began, it was uncovered that the existing addition had been built improperly. This was both a challenge and a relief, as it allowed for a completely blank slate to start from.
PLANS & RENDERINGS
Older homes are notoriously tricky to remodel, especially ones that have been standing for over 140 years. The existing floors were slightly out of level, making it challenging to tie the new addition to the house. Elevated thresholds were used between the existing dining room and new kitchen to bridge the gap between the rooms. Both the electric and plumbing in the house were very out of date and needed to be replaced in order to meet current code standards.
