These clients were generally happy with the layout of their kitchen, but less in love with the appearance. With a mind toward sustainability, they wanted to keep their existing cabinets to minimize waste and utilize environmentally efficient materials.
Project Completed: 2022
Before we could think about updating the aesthetic of the kitchen, the lack of usable storage and counter space had to be addressed. The back left corner of the kitchen had become a makeshift pantry, which these homeowners felt was difficult to organize and always seemed cluttered. The separated cooktop and wall oven took up more space than they needed – a real issue when functional cabinet space was a premium. The awkward “piano-shaped” island both took up too much and didn’t provide any real usable space for seating.
The new design utilized open shelving to provide the most storage possible, in a way that didn’t block the window and helped make the smaller sized space feel more open. Transitioning to a slide in range allowed for these clients to upgrade to a more modern induction range, add a hood and gave the space for uninterrupted tall cabinetry. Additionally, a more streamlined L-shape countertop made the space feel more open, while also creating seating for two. Our team made strategic alterations to their existing kitchen to create functional storage with a more open, modern feel.
